Thane: The opening of the newly built kopri rail weapon on the bridge on the Eastern Express highway is likely to be postponed because the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is awaiting an important fitness report from Bombay IIT after several cracks have developed on the surface recently This, officials said.
MMRDA officials who requested anonymity say the surface on one of the arms developed a few gaps a few days ago after the authority decided to tie experts to ensure their stability.
Furthermore, the bridge which will be marked in the near future will soon be postponed it is studied thus adding to the chaos on the stretch of arteries which is an important crossover point for cross-town and transportation between Pune-Thane-Nashik and Mumbai.
The opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis who visited the bridge on Thursday, said the bridge widening was very important and claimed to have stepped up with additional funds for work during his tenure as the main minister.
“The initial cost of work was Rs 9 CR but spinning for years and was trapped for several years.
I allocated more than Rs 200 CR funds for work and I felt the arm to be discarded immediately,” Fadnivis said when talking to the media.

Meanwhile, Commissioner MMRDA Srinivas SVR on Thursday, confirmed to TOI they were waiting for a report from Bombay IIT after several cracks had grown on the surface of one of the lanes.
“It doesn’t look like a big mistake but we still get expert reports.
There are some pending jobs on both arm bridges and after completion, it will be opened for traffic,” said Srinivas.
