Thane: oil tankers crashed into the road dividers here in Maharashtra on Thursday, resulting in massive traffic at the busy junction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway and other main streets on the outskirts of Thane, officials said.
There are no reports of victims, they said.
Tanker, who was walking to the Shilphata in Thane from Gujarat, met an accident on Jalan Ghodbunder Arteri City at around 1:30 a.m., after a furnace from a vehicle leaked on both sides of the road, the cell of the Municipal Regional Disaster Management, (RDMC) Head of Kadam Santosk said.
This caused a solid traffic jam on both sides of the Ghodbunder road and at the main intersection of Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, an official from Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Virar Room control.
“Commands face a difficult time because of a terrible traffic jam on the main streets,” the official said.
After being told, local firefighters, police and RDMC personnel rushed to the place where they sprayed water and placed the sand to clean the oil, said Kadam.
But, the vehicle movement was still very affected, officials said.
“No one was injured,” said Kadam, added that efforts continue to restore the smooth traffic movements on the road.
