Mumbai: Eco sensitive zone (ESZ) around Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS) is formally reduced from 10 km which is considered 0 km in several places up to a maximum of 3.9 km.
The center recently issued a gazette that defines ESZ limits as well as areas around the sanctuary which will now be 48 square kilometers.
ESZ will extend to the boundary of mangrove forest on the west side of Kudus and the entire Wide Thane Creek and side by side with the Mumbai Mumbai Navi area in the east.
On the south side, the border limit of the Sion-Panven Highway and the next south is a commercial part of Thane Creek “which does not add value to Sanctuary,” states that Gazettes were issued on October 14.
On the north side, ESZ is limited to 2.2km and includes the northern part of Thine Creek and mangrove patches on government land.
Virendra Tiwari, Head of Conservation, Mangrove Conservation Cell, said that changes in the ESZ limit did not affect bullet train projects in any way because they did not require environmental permits.
Gazettes mandated the state government prepared a zonal management plan within two years after notification publication.
The last notification now clears the road for not only the real estate industry but the opening of 11 Ponds Holding Navi Mumbai created to prevent the city from flooding, said environmental lovers.
The neglect of years, they accused, resulting in the entry of sea water, which resulted in a pond that choked the mangrove.
Now there is a petition that is delayed before bombing a high court to clean the pool.
Tiwari said clearing, which is a regulated activity in accordance with Gazette’s notification, can be done only with court approval.
For the real estate industry, notifications will accelerate to obtain a development permit at 15 Civic wards from Chembur, Kurla, Bhandup, Mulund, East Ghatkopar to Kandivli, Borivli, Andheri Timur and Bandra.
Even the area on the omelet, Matunga and the affected parel will be easier to build.
