Thane: The train court has given a two-year-old prison sentence to a 56-year-old man for persecuting and blowing it on the train in 2013, observing that if such an incident was not dealt with seriously, it would endanger the safety and life of women who traveled alone on the train.
Judge Judicial Kalyan Railway Court First Class Swayam S Chopda, in the order of passing on Saturday, also requested charges to pay compensation of rs 10,000 to the victim, failed where he had to serve a simple prison sentence for one month.
The Assistant Prosecutor Jaishree Korde told the court that the woman boarded a Passenger Train trainer Bhusawal-Mumbai in Nashik on September 3, 2013 and slept on the bed alone.
When the train then stopped at Khadavali station, the woman felt that someone touched it and when she woke up, she saw the defendant standing nearby and blinking at him.
When he raised the alarm, the defendant jumped out of the coach, but was arrested by several people and was handed over to the police.
In its circumstances, the judge observed that the act of the defendant “savage”, and he needed to be handled by iron.
The defendant has crossed all the limits of poor and inappropriate sympathy, said the court.
“If such an incident is not dealt with seriously, it will endanger the safety and life of the passengers of women traveling alone on the public train,” said the court, adding that prosecution had proven all charges against the defendant.
