KALYAN: The Khadakpada police in Kalyan have arrested Haidar Irani (52), who was involved in over 100 chain and mobile snatching cases across the country.
The accused was involved in 23 chain snatching cases in Thane district, 35 cases in Mumbai and over 50 cases in other states.
The police team on Saturday arrested Irani from the Iranipada area in Ambivli, which is a famous hideout for chain snatchers.
He is also said to be the mastermind of the attack on the police team on February 4 this year, when Vasai police had visited the area to nab chain snatchers.
During the raid, 15 to 20 men and women, most of them relatives of chain snatchers, had attacked cops and their vehicles.
The sources said that the entire incident was captured on the mobile phone of a passerby, and later cops using the same video found that Irani was behind attack.
Ashok Pawar, senior police inspector of Khadakpada police station said, “The arrested accused is a famous chain snatcher and involved in over 100 chain snatching cases across country and recently he planted attack cop during raid at Iranipada”.
“This year, we so far have arrested 23 chain snatchers from Iranipada area.
They have been handed to different police stations where they have committed crimes”.
