Thane: The police have arrested five people, including a Nigerian woman and a woman, and took Mephedrone, forbidden drugs, worth Rs 21.80 lakh from their ownership in a different attack here in Maharashtra, an official said on Tuesday.
Raids was carried out on Sundays in the city of Mumbra from the Thane District after Tip-Off, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kalwa Division, Venkat Andale told reporters.
The police put the trap at Road Machine Khadi and M L Valley in Mumbra and accused the defendant when they arrived to sell smuggle, he said.
The police confiscated a total of 218 GM Powder Mephedrone, also known as MD, from their ownership, he said.
Those who were arrested were identified as Izobialo Ugochiku Sunde (33), Shama Hassan Sayyed (37), Hidayat Mohammad Hasam Ansari (50), Firoz Shoukat Khan (35) and Sayyed Nasim Ali Kadir Ali (41).
Three other men and women fled during the raid, the official said.
Allegations arrested were ordered based on the provisions of narcotics and psychotropic drugs (NDPS), he said, adding that the police tried to find out the drug source and to whom it would be sold.
The police also investigated if there were large drug smuggling racquets operating here and if more vendors were involved in it, the official said.
