Thane: Six people including parents of newborns along with intermediaries were arrested by the Thane police branch crime on Friday for allegedly selling newborns for Rs 1.50 lakh.
The police said that the baby was born in a government hospital on December 4.
Babies are the fifth child born of the couple, they want to sell newborns because they really need money.
Crime branch officials get information that the couple from Bhiwandi is looking for customers to sell newborns and a medium man negotiating on their behalf.
“We are working on that information and establishing fake customer pairs and building communication with intermediaries and asking them to come somewhere near a hotel in the Castle Mill area,” Informed Nilesh More, Inspector Assistant.
Parents accused of together with newborns along with others arriving at a place determined by fake customers paying money and taking over the child.
Crime branch officials intercept and arrest them.
The child was then sent to the child care center in Dombivli.
A police officer said, “Ideally if the biological parents do not want children, they must give them an orphanage but here they try to sell it illegally.
There are legal procedures for mandatory adoption.”
