Thane: The police have thwarted Dacoity’s efforts in a village in the Thane district in Maharashtra and arrested five gunmen in this connection, an official said on Friday.

However, three of them escaped from the place, he said.
“After arresting five accused, the police recovered from their ‘Katta’ (the country-made gun), two bullets, nylon ropes, chili powder, helicopters and other materials,” he said, added that they were identified as Sanjeev Bhaita (32), fragrant Mahatamato ( 25), Shekar Kasbe (29), Ajmal Khan (18) and Arshad Aslam Shaikh (40).
During their interrogation, the defendant revealed that they had stolen diesel from several trucks and containers parked on the road between Dombivli and Manada in the district.
After that, the police restored the stolen diesel and two vehicles used in carrying it, collectively worth Rs 6,53,550, said Honrao.
A violation under Section 399 (making preparations for dacoity), 402 (assembly for the purpose of conducting dacoity) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) IPC was registered against the defendant at the Shil-Daighar police station.
They were also ordered under Act Act and Bombay police acted, the official said.
