Thane: A 13-year-old girl was kidnapped and persecuted by a 21-year-old man who took him to a village in Bhiwandi Tehsil of Thane District in Maharashtra, police said on Sunday, adding the defendant arrested and the girl was saved.
The girl was kidnapped from Wisnu Nagar in Dombivli, also in the Thane District, on September 20, after a case was listed under various parts of the Indian criminal code and the protection of children from sexual violations (Pocso) said.
The police traced the defendant, Akshay Patil, to Kaher Village in Bhiwandi.
He was arrested in Thane.
The girl was saved from the village on September 23 and was handed over to her parents.
Recently, a 15-year-old girl, also from Dombivli, was raped by 33 people for the past eight months.
The police have so far arrested 29 people and detained two underage children while the other two were still running, said an official, added the police confiscated the autorickshaw used by the defendant to transport victims from one place to another.
