Thane: Thane police have arrested two people from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly kidnapping and killing a taxi driver and then throwing away the body in Kasara Ghat here in Maharashtra, an official said on Thursday.
Two people were arrested, identified as Rahulkumar Baburao Gautam (24) and Dharmendrakumar aka Vakil Sampatam Gautam (27), and four of their colleagues ordered a taxi on August 1 to leave the Dhule district to Dhule.
When a taxi reached near Kasara Ghat, the six residents asked the driver to stop the vehicle.
They were then suspected of killing taxi drivers with sharp weapons, throwing away the body in the Ghat area and fled by vehicle to Uttar Pradesh, officials from the MFC police station in Kalyan said.
The taxi aggregator filed a complaint from missing the next day.
The MFC police carrying an investigation into this case, tracking the defendant’s movement through a cellphone from which the taxi was ordered.
They also checked CCTV recordings at various checkpoints and zeros in the people accused of, the official said.
The police arrested the two men from Bhadohi on August 9 and took him here, he said.
As long as it was questioned, the two defendants told the police about where they threw away the body of the victim.
The police then restored a body that was very decomposed from the place and sent it to Postmortem, the official said.
Both of the defendants also told the police that they had stolen a taxi on the guidance of the garage owner in Bhadohi above, he said.
The police have confiscated a car and looked for the other accused, including the garage owner, the official said.
The case has been registered in the relevant section of the Indian criminal code, he added.
