Thane: Women among the three were arrested for stealing more than Rs 10 lakh from home Kin

Thane: The police have arrested a female sister and two other relatives for allegedly stealing RS 10.85 lakh cash from her home in Maharashtra district, an official said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on September 4 after the victim sold his house and made cash at his current residence at Mumbra Town here.
He filed a police complaint, alleged that some unknown people entered his house and stole the money, said the senior police officer Mumbhukar Police Madhukar said.
Police on September 6 register cases against unknown people under the Indian Criminal Code 380 (theft) and 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking to commit a violation), he said.
They checked the CCTV recording of the area and then captured the accused, identified as the victim’s brother-in-law.
On the day of the incident, the defendant who was arrested had made whatsapp call to someone and then erased the record from his cellphone.
The police sent a telephone for forensic testing which revealed that he had made a call to his wife, who was a sister of the complainant, the official said.
After further investigation into this case, the police on September 22 arrested a complainant sister and the next day caught his uncle because of their involvement in theft, he said.
They also recovered Rs 9.35 lakh from stolen cash from the defendant, he added.
