Kalyan: Social worker named Sarita Khanchani was attacked by a private Civil Contractor Ajay Shewani in Ulhasnagar City from the Thane Maharashtra District for exposing alleged abuse of public funds.
The incident was revealed after the Mayor of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation Leelabai Ashan recently received funds of 10 lakh which was subject to sanctions for gardening on open plots near the private housing building of the Sharda Castle located in Ward in Ulhasnagar-4.
Khanchanan alleged that Ashan tried to take advantage of agreed funds for garden work in the Sharda Castle and Shewani contractor were also involved in it.
He claimed that using civilian funds on private property was illegal and therefore, he took objections.
But when he tried to expose the same thing by making the video work, Shewani who was close to the mayor, attacked him and grabbed his cellphone.
After the incident, the local Vitthalwadi police ordered Shewani under the section associated with the persecution and attack.
Khanchandani said that recently, when he learned that Shewani received a sanction fund of Rs 10 Lakh to work gardening in the building using his relationship with the mayor, he decided to expose the same thing.
He even gained some information through RTI and sent a written complaint about the same as the UMC Commissioner Dr.
Raja Dayanidhi and senior civilian officials, but there was no action taken, he claimed.
Khanchandani told Tii, “I did not oppose gardening work but because it was UMC funds that must be used for public work and not for private communities, I decided to make the same video on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
when the work began, and explained those who looted money Public.
“Khanchani accused when he began recording a garden’s work video, Shewani attacked him by slapping him and pushing him to the floor and also grabbed his cellphone.
He said it in self-defense, he said it was too attacked by Shewani for attacking him, where Shewani now filed a violation that could not be punished against him.
When asked, Shewani told Tii, “The work of the garden has just begun and I have not received a penny from the corporation for work.
But Khanchandani while making a video I started calling me a corrupt person that leads to a fight.” “Khanchandani claims to fight for environmental protection and oppose garden work, “he added.
Interestingly, after criticism on social Nedia, Mayor Leelabai Ashan claimed that Khanchani did not need to slander it by making false accusations.
He said that the work of the actual garden using UMC funds has not started near the same Sharda Castle building by destroying public toilets that are not used there.
However, Khanchandani said that the mayor made false claims to defend themselves, and in fact, there was no open space or public toilet near the building for gardening work as claimed by the mayor.
After the incident, UMC had started the investigation of this problem.
YUVRAJ BHADANE, UMC Public Relations Official said, “In this connection, the Commissioner of the UMC or other senior-level civilian officials will make investigations and engineers who make contract work and get approved funds will be considered responsible, and if the contractor has made a mistake, he will get a black list.
