Thank you to Police Bhubaneswar, lucky people get their stolen phone back

Bhubaneswar: Sanghamitra Swain has lost all the hope of getting back his cellphone stolen near Kalinga Stadium about two years ago.
But it surprised him, the police Saheed Nagar contacted him on Monday and handed his phone after recovering it from the thief.

The police have issued a Helpline number WhatsApp, 7077798111, for drives.
“We have a large number of cellphones that are not claimed in the Urbaneswar (UPD) urban police district.
We urge people to send us messages at WhatsApp, which states the number of IMEIs from their stolen cellphones, model numbers and reference cases (if any).
If the details Matches a cellphone that is not claimed, we will immediately contact them, “said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar) Uma Shankar Dash.
Dash added that a special exhibition was held at the Saheed Nagar police station to return 40 recovered phones to their original owner on Monday.
“We appreciate the steps by the police.
In many cases, people failed to get their phone back even though there was a complaint with the police.
I did not file a complaint when I lost the phone,” Swain said.
The police said they had contacted people even though the victims did not file a complaint to them.
“We reach people by verifying the number of IMEIs from their stolen phones.
In many cases, service providers or telephone sellers cannot provide us the right address and contact details of the original owner.
We return the following cellphone.
The right verification,” said Dash.
However, the police faced difficulties in identifying the owner of several locked phones.
“Some smartphones remain locked.
We plan to hire technicians who can help us unlock them so we can find the IMEI number,” said an officer.
