NEW DELHI: Satyendar Jain, Minister of Air Delhi and the Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, led the meeting on the resurrection and rejuvenation of the water body in the city on Thursday and set a two-year deadline to revive 22 lakes and 200 waterbodies.
Jain said various aspects revived every water body had been studied.
The lake must be developed into a landscape tourist spot and will be fed throughout the year with water from existing or new waste treatment plants.
“The lake must have clean water throughout the year.
It must be ascertained that maximum ground water is recharged through this waterbodi,” Jain told the meeting.
“Mud and solid waste must be cleaned and the ecosystem is rejuvenated.
The lake must be developed as a public space with the right landscape.” Jain added, “Landscaping must change the site in such a way that they attract attention and find a place on the map of every tourist worldwide.” To speed up work, Jain frozen the responsibility between the two Department of Engineering Government Delhi.
In addition, the DJB will ensure that waterbodies receive recycled water throughout the year from STPS even as irrigation departments & flood control will work on landscaping.
In the meeting, Jain also instructed officials to make additional refill wells near waterbodies and lakes to increase their water filling capacity.
He then directed them to see that clean rain channels were connected to the nearest pond and lake.
Some of the main water among the 22 arranged to be rejuvenated including Typical Lake Hauz, Lake Sanjay in East Delhi, Lake Roshanara, Lake Bhalswa, Lake Oxidation of Timarpur, and Rohini Lake, the latter was designated as the main project by the DJB Chairman.
“Rejuvenation of the Lake Oxidation of Timarpur and Rohini Lake are the two of our most important projects.
These lakes must be restored according to expectations and officials must work hard to make plans to produce planned results,” Jain said.
While Timarpur water spread across 38 hectares, Lake Rohini occupy 40 hectares.
DJB has worked to revive 45 waterbodies, and the work is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
This pool mostly deals with the flow of waste directly from the nearest area.
Officials said that to overcome this problem, the decentralized waste treatment plant was being installed for the treatment of site waste-specific sites.
