Lucknow: The Central Narcotics Research Institute (CDRI) on Tuesday claims that the clinical trial of Umifenovir antivirus drugs in the treatment of Covid-19 has been successful, report Mohita Tewari.
The Umifenovir court in 132 Covid patients showed that if the right dose was given twice a day for five days, the drug could effectively reduce viral load in patients with mild and asymptomatic symptoms by checking the multiplication of the virus.
The title ‘phase iii, random, double-blind, placebo trials controlled from the efficacy, safety and tolerability of umifyenovir vs.
standard treatment of therapy in covid patients who are not severe’, clinical trials are carried out in three institutions – medical universities King George, RAM Institute of Medical Sciences Manohar Lohia and Lucknow Medical College and Hospital era.
“Because Umifenovir is a broad spectrum antivirus and is used as a medication of a safe counter for influenza and pneumonia for more than 20 years in many countries, the first two trials are not compulsory.
CDRI goes directly to the phase-III trial,” said Kundu Director of CDRI Tapas.
“In a study, double-blind mode increases the reliability of the results by preventing bias when the doctor evaluates the results of patients.
The results showed the patient did not experience side effects,” he said.
Chairman of Scientists, CDRI, R Ravishankar, said, “Experts say the drug is safe for pregnant women and children.”
