Kolkata: Given the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will not be held this November.
The 27th KIFF edition will be held from 7 to 14 January 2022.
Change of KIFF packaging is also expected this year.
The last call will be taken by the Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee.
The 26th KIFF edition was also encouraged from last November due to health problems involving a pandemic.
The 26th Physical KIFF edition was held from January 8 to 15 this year.
It was the first international film festival in India to have a physical edition.
The 51st edition of the Indian International Film Festival (IFFI) has also been driven from November last year.
The hybrid edition of the festival was held this year from January 16 to January 24.
Unlike KIFF, IFFI will host another edition of this year again.
The 5th edition IFFI will take place in Goa from 20 to 28 November.
This year has seen the Chairperson of the 26th KIFF Raj Chakraborty made his role politics after ensuring a successful edition of the festival.
Because he was asked how he saw his role in connection with the 27th KIFF, said Chakraborty, “I am always there for KIFF but I also believe that everyone must get the chance to work.
I have been the chairman for two KIFF editions.
It would be better if someone else It gets the opportunity to work for a festival which is a pride of Bengal.
I will give this proposal to our main minister.
The last call will be taken by him.
“Before the pandemic broke, the KIFF was the first Indian Festival to serve most of Cannes, Venice, and Berlin winners.
All other international festivals in India will be held next.
Encouraging the 27th edition of the KIFF will mean fans of films that must be considered to filter award-winners at IFFI or wait longer for KIFF.
Reacting to this, Chakraborty said, “With the third wave approaching, we need to take more time to host other editions instead of rushing to anything.
In addition, very few films have been made this year.
Because we have an edition In January, we decided to host the next edition after 12 months.
“The filmmaker has been asked to send their entries.
The last date for submission is September 30.
With fewer films made and many have the release of OTT directly during the pandemic, is there a possibility that the last one made it a KIFF? “Once our committee is finished, it will decide what to do on this problem,” Chakraborty added.
