Ghaziabad: A 3-day-old baby who was kidnapped from the Community Health Center (CHC) in Muradnagar on Friday, saved on Saturday.
Two defendants – Vijay alias Rahul, the transgender from Ghaziabad and Prince from Hapur – have been arrested, they said.
Police Station Muradnagar Sho Hariom Singh said a hospital staff told them that an unknown woman had visited the facility for the past three days.
In CCTV recording from the hospital, the same woman can be seen standing outside the newborn Ward, he said.
“The tea seller told us that bearded people in Sari came to his kiosk for the past few days,” he said.
The picture of the suspect was then sent to several people from the transgender community in other districts.
Furthermore, the defendant was held from Ganga Canal, Singh said, adding that “the duo was trying to escape with the child”.
SP Rural Dr.
Iraj Raja said the defendant told the police that they knew each other for the past two years.
“They want to get married and raise children and therefore, they kidnap children from the hospital.
We check whether they want to sell children and if someone else is involved in the crime.
The probe further is taking place,” he said.
The defendant had been ordered based on Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) IPC.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Dr.
Bhavtosh Shanthhdhar has directed all government hospitals to strengthen their security measures.
“The hospital has been told to ensure that the place is under the supervision of CCTV,” he told Ti.
Some hospital staff have been suspended in connection with this case, he added.
Superintendent Chc Muradnagar Dr.
Diesh Kumar said he had written a letter to the police to increase patrols in the area.
“We increase the number of CCTV cameras in the hospital and limit the entry of people.
All Asha workers will wear uniforms and carry identity cards,” Dr.
Kumar added.
