The 3rd Covid wave will occur soon, please not be equal to 2: BMC

Mumbai: The third Covid-19 wave is near and can begin at the beginning of next month, to coincide with the celebration season, according to BMC officials.
The silver layer, is the third wave may not be “big” as the second when the number of Covid-19 active cases has touched 91,000 in April, the additional Commissioner of BMC Suresh Kakani on Wednesday.
Although the third wave can be delayed, it will definitely hit Mumbai, Kakani said.
“There are several reasons for this – the future celebration season, the receding rainy season and reverse migration,” he added.
Cases have surged after Ganeshotsav in September 2020 when, due to weather changes, viral activity also increased.
Finally, BMC officials said unskilled workers who went to their hometown during the limitation of the second wave would return to large quantities in the next few weeks.
The peak was observed around September 18 when active cases rose to 34,259.
“We hope the number of Covid cases are active during the third wave of the first and second waves,” Kakani added.
Factors that contribute to the lower third wave will be the ongoing mass vaccination drive.
About 73% of the qualified city population has taken the first dose while 25% fully vaccinated.
Experts have maintained that changes in disease patterns will be seen at 30% of the population fully vaccinated; The herd immunity will need more than 75% of the population to be fully vaccinated.
“The number of those who have taken the first dose can reach 80% immediately (before the third wave) while the number of those who will be vaccinated with both doses also increases,” he added.
In an effort to increase the percentage of people who are entirely vaccinated, BMC plans to order certain days of the week to vaccinate those who are looking for the second dose.
A BMC senior health official said the field staff had been told to vaccinate as many people as possible when shares were included.
Because vaccination drive in the last 10 days has shown, BMC can vaccinate itself more than 1 lakh in a one day (i.e., exceeding and above vaccinated in the private sector).
Officials said during the celebration season in the country it was difficult to distance residents from socializing because they had become a tradition followed in this country.
“Therefore, the celebration season, which began in September and lasted until December, would be very important and to be careful as far as the third wave concerned,” said an BMC official.
