New Delhi: The Smog Tower in Connaught Place has begun working on full capacity and primary results shows that there has been a reduction in 80% in the pollution level through the tower, neighborhood Minister Delhi Gopal Rai said on Friday.
The Minister visited the tower to examine his progress and said it was able to reduce PM 2.5 of 151 micrograms per cubic meter to around 38 micrograms, while PM 10 concentration of 165 micrograms at cubic meters was reduced to around 41 micrograms Friday morning.
“The Smog Tower was inaugurated on August 23 by the Chairman of the Minister of Arvind Kejriwal on behalf of the Government of Delhi.
After that, being tested based on the pilot and with the trial is now finished, it has begun to function at full capacity,” Rai said on Friday.
The Minister said the Delhi government was also a 16 member committee who would check the data produced by the tower.
The monitoring committee will submit a total of three reports to the government, at intervals of each three months, based on where the government will decide whether more romance towers must be installed in Delhi.
The 16 member committee includes a five-member team of the Delhi pollution control committee, a five-member team of IIT Bombay, three NBCC members and three members of the Tata Limited project.
The tower can clean the air within a 1 kilometer radius and can purify around 1,000 cubic meters of air per second before releasing it again, officials said.
Rai added that the display screen has been installed outside the tower, which will display the real time reading of air pollution data and the impact of the tower around it.
