Mangaluru: Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi and Sahitya Academy have taken digitalization of books as part of a quiet celebration for inaugurated this month.
The digitization process which began about four months ago, was an attempt to popularize and protect the language.
So far, 42 books published by the Academy have been digitized.
Lakshminarayan Kajegadde, president of the academy, said that this was an attempt to unite people who spoke Arebhashe, throughout the world.
We have also written a letter to the author who has published his own book, where many agreed to get their books digitized through the academy.
Meanwhile, working on the Arebhashe dictionary and cultural documentation of Arebhasha, through items used by people, are on.
The academy also organizes Arebhasha Samskruthi Shibira (camp), where people resources are chosen locally, to enlighten participants in traditional practices and songs.
Oral Arebhashe tradition is one of the main traditions that show better aspects of language.
The camp will be held in Moornadu in Kodagu from Monday.
Minimum 30 people will participate in the camp.

Bharathesha reasons, an Academy member, said Arebhashe had a history of around 500 years.
According to linguistic scientists, close to Kannada, but it is difficult even for Kannadigas to understand the language.
It is estimated that five lakh people, most belongs to the Gowda community, speak Arebhashe in the Dakshina District of Kannada and Kodagu in Karnataka and Casilagod in Kerala.

K Chinappa Gowda, former representative of Chancellor, Karnataka Folklore University, said that there was a need to protect Arebhashe or Gowda Bhashe, because of some communities in Sutia and Kodagu.
“Languages resemble Kannada but different.
It’s easy to ignore language, but to bring it back to the mainstream is a challenge.
Every language has unique words talking about language quality.
It should be noted that there is a literature in Arebhashe, which has quality taught at school.
Some works in Arebhashe are being translated into other languages, “he added.
