Lucknow: Consumption of ‘Giloy’ without recipes and monitoring can cause damage to organs such as liver, revealing research recently published in hepatology communication, official journal American Association for liver disease studies.
Giloy or Tinospora Cordifolia is an herbal medicine commonly taken as an amplifier of immunity.
This study was conducted by the Indian Heart Research Club in 13 medical centers including the Medical University of King George (KgMu).
The university released the results to the public on Thursday.
This research was conducted in 43 patients-23 women and 20 men – who reported with symptoms of jaundice.
Clinical findings reveal that all patients suffer from chronic liver disease or liver failure.
The doctor also found that each patient had a history of taking Giloy’s concoction.
“We found that Giloy was the main cause of liver problems at 67.4% (29) patients because there were no other factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, diabetes, thyroid, hypertension or other etiological reasons.
The remaining patients consume alcohol regularly and have comorbidity , Therefore they are not included among those who are Giloy are the main causes, “said Dr.
Ajay Kumar Pardwa, Associate Professor Gastroenterology in Kgmu.
“Most of these patients have consumed herbal medicines without recipes or taking doses not violated for an average of 46 days.
This produces general antinuclear antibodies that begin to attack liver cells and induce acute hepatitis with features such as autoimmune hepatitis,” said Prof.
Patwa.
“No one has to start to bring it up,” he added.
