Gurgaon: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has completed IIAmgurgaon, a city-based NGO, as a body for the development of urban forests in the Sikanderpur area and Chakkarpur.
Memorandum understanding (MoU) in this case has been signed between the two institutions.
According to GMDA officials, they found the Iamgurgaon proposal to be the most feasible after the evaluation of the three proposals submitted to them.
“On the basis of the proposal he said, we have completed IIAmggagagaon as an institution for urban forest projects,” said an official.
NGOs are responsible for the maintenance of the Aravali biodiversity park until now, when the Motocorp hero takes its maintenance.
Latika Thakural, co-founder of NGOs, confirmed the development and said they signed Mou with GMDA on Thursday.
“We have completed the MoU and are currently through maps and other details of the project site,” Thakural said.
He added that they would immediately start the site inspection.
After that, the agency planned to start planting puppies.
Urban forests will be developed above 200 hectares in the city.
This will appear on the ground which was previously occupied illegally by wild residents and is known as the marble market.
TI previously reported that three agents – DLF Foundation, IIAmgurgaon and Iora ecological solutions – have expressed interest in the project and were asked to submit their proposals to GMDA for further evaluation.
This project was approved by the Chairman of Manohar Minister Lal Khettar at the GMDA final authority held in April.
The scope of the project will include regional fences, formation and maintenance of wood blocks with emphasis on species of trees and bushes that are appropriate, the theme-based plantations and formation and maintenance of public facilities.
Agency will not claim any funds from GMDA and regulate their own funds.
Until now, Gurgaon does not have urban forests.
The only place that approached was the Aravali Biodsity Park.
In the absence of other green areas in the city, the proposed urban forest will not only provide public places for residents, but also help increase gurgaon green cover.
The closing green per capita city, according to the estimated GMDA itself, is 7 square meters, while it is ideally 9 square meters.
However, some in the GMDA have an estimate of the green cover estimation of the metropolitan authority, and say the figure tends to fall in the coming years due to new infrastructure projects and tree logging.
