The application helps doctors monitor the level of patient’s blood oxygen

Mangaluru: Prof.
Mackwin d’Mello, Head, Public Health Department, KS Hegde Medical Academy of Nitte (Deemed to Be University) has developed an Android application that helps doctors in PHCs and Asha workers keep tabs at the level of spo2 (blood oxygen) in patients Covid-19 in house isolation.
The title of Coviswas, this application was launched by Nitte Chancellor N Vinay Hegde on Wednesday.
A pilot will be carried out in Belman and Nitte PHCs, said D’Mello.
This application records the Covid-19 patient spo2 in house isolation twice a day.
It reads the SPO2 directly from the oximeter pulse provided by the government.
Patients cannot damage reading.
If there is a reduction in the SPO2 level, the warning is sent to the medical officer.
He said district health workers could become Super Admin and medical officers at PHCS Admin for applications.
D’Mello said: “On several occasions, Asha workers have talked about challenges at work.
Many of them are alert to visit Covid-19 patients in house isolation.
Meanwhile, Dr.
Satheesh Kumar Bhandar, VC, Nitte called and told me that We have to do something for covid patients.
I immediately wrote a proposal and sent it to him in a day, “he said.
He added: “The proposal was approved and two MCA Vignesh students and Yogish were assisted by technical aspects.
We launched the application within a month after conducting a trial in Nitte.” This application is useful for medical officers because in one click they can get details of the total number of patients in home insulation and their spo2 details.
The admin has the authority to remove patients from the list after they complete 14 days of isolation.
However, the data will be saved.
All that the patient needs is a smartphone with internet connectivity so that it can scan the reading of pulse oximeter.
Because the application can track locations through GPS, patients must check the spo2 of his house.
The trial was carried out in around 10 patients with the oximeter provided by the government, said D’Mello.
