Chennai: The case of a five-year-old boy was taken to the Chromepet Government Hospital on Thursday with burns on the body and head injury turned out to be the story of a branding and sordid attack which led to his death.
Plaiskanai police, who identified the deceased such as Abel, on Saturday arrested Aunt Mary who was 20 years old for her murder.
The court was a judge in Tambaram then sent the woman to prison.
On Thursday night, a police officer said, Mary, who had cared for Abel and his sister Keerthi, 8, took the boy to a government hospital in Chrome where the doctor said he died on arrival.
Mary told the doctor in the hospital trauma treatment unit played in their homes when she suffered injury and fainted.
The boy’s body was sent to hospital illness for autopsy.
The doctor who did post-mortem, however, was curious after finding a sign of branding, which was more than a week, and made by nails on the body.
They warned the police.
Based on the Doctor’s preliminary report, Pekerkarani police registered a suspicious death case below the 174 CRPC section.
The first breakthrough came when police officers questioned Keerthi, who told them that their aunt often attacked her brother to discipline her.
The older woman even branded the boy on several occasions, he said.
The investigator then questioned Mary, who after initially claimed innocent, claimed to attack and record the boy on several occasions.
On Thursday, Mary told the police, she destroyed Abel’s head to the wall which made her faint.
A senior police officer said Abel was a young Bharath, 32 and Soosai Mary, 29, from Kattankulashur.
When the couple worked in a private company and lived in a small house, they sent Abel and his sister Keerthi to House of Soossai Mary’s Sister Dorothy in PEPISAkanai near Tambaram.
After Dorothy’s death a few months ago, his daughter Mary had started caring for children.
Two other children grew up with Bharath and Soosai Mary.
