Moscow: Rescuers on Wednesday have found the bodies of victims a day after the plane crashed in a remote area in the East Russian East, the local government said.
An Antonov An-26 who brought 28 people to fall on Tuesday near the destination city of Palan in the Kamchatka area, apparently when entering to land in bad weather.
Debris was found on Tuesday night on the beach and in the sea, and the search and rescue operation was suspended until Wednesday morning after the night fell, because the accident’s location was difficult to access in darkness.
Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Solodov, told the state news agency the state that “the first body was being pulled out (from water).” He won’t say how many bodies found.
Russian media reported Tuesday that there were no six crew members or 22 passengers who survived.
The head of the regional government in Palan, Olga Mokhireva, was among the passengers, said the Kamchatka government spokesman.
Solodov said on Tuesday that a group of government officials including Transport Minister Vitaly Savellyev would go to Puna on Wednesday.
In 2012, the Antonov An-28 aircraft belonging to the Kamchatka airline crashed into the mountain while flying the same route as Tuesday’s flight.
14 people were on board and 10 of them were killed.
The two pilots, who were among the dead, were found to have alcohol in their blood, Tass reported.
