Srinagar: The body of Mohammad Altaf Bhat and Mudasir Gul, two civilians killed in the Hyderpora meeting, were placed for a break after they were excavated here, officials said on Friday.
The body, which was excavated in Handwara after sunset on Thursday, arrived here around midnight, they said.
Officials said emotional scenes were witnessed immediately after Bhat and Gul’s body reached Barzulla and Pirbagh.
Men, women and children waiting for the bodies to strike, wailing mortal remains when they caught the last glimpies killed before they were put to rest.
After some time, the bodies were taken in procession to the local grave in the midst of religious verses.
The authorities told the family to limit the meeting and bury them quickly, the officials said.
They said the bodies were put to rest in their ancestral graves in Barzulla and Pirbagh after funeral prayer was held.
This was for the first time since the Covid pandemic outbreak in March last year that a person was buried under the supervision of the police was returned to their relatives.
Returns came after the extraordinary pressure of the family and mainstream politicians, including former Chief of Minister Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, and civil society groups.
