Thane: A 16-year-old boy is feared to have sunk in a mine full of water in the Kalwa district of Thane Maharashtra on Tuesday, a citizenship official said.
Jeet Verma, a resident of Poud on Kalwa, has swimming with seven friends to the mine in Thakurada, said Santosh Kadam, Head of the Disaster Management Disaster Management Thane Municipal Corporation.
The boy allegedly jumped into the water, could not measure the depth and sink, the official said.
Local fire station was warned and the fire department team and disaster management personnel launched a search operation in the afternoon, but the boy had not been found, he said.
The search was called because of a bad light and will be continued on Wednesday, he added.
