The British Council facilitates curriculum reform in Telangana

Hyderabad: The curriculum for liberal arts and trade in Telangana will undergo a large transformation because the British Council has extended assistance to the Telangana State of Higher Education Board (Tsche) to review and revise the syllabus as part of a three-year project.
As part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the British Council and Tsche last year, the two organizations have decided to identify reforms in the curriculum in the subjects of social sciences.
The British Council and Tsche held a meeting with all newly appointed state chancellor representatives on July 6 to intentional for the fields of curriculum reform and its impact on the workpapence for the next three years to students and teachers.
“We will identify the main subjects offered at the University of Osmania and Kakatiya University and do scope and study of the curriculum revision.
Finally, the task force will be formed with members of two universities Wales who will evaluate the existing curriculum and propose the necessary changes,” said Janaki Pushpanathan, Director, British Council (South India).

The revised curriculum will be launched to close 1,000 universities in Telangana at the end of the project of three years.
“If the project is successful then we will extend it to other courses such as pharmaceuticals, science etc.
The idea is to adopt the best practices of the English universities,” said Papi Reddy, Chair of Tsche.
In addition, the British Council has also launched an exclusive UK scholarship scheme for Telangana students.
“A total of 16 students contributed from Telangana every year will secure a 5,000 pound scholarship to be studied at eight of the University of Wales.
The total scholarship fund is 80,000 pounds.
The idea is to improve student mobility between the two countries,” Pushpanathan said.
As part of bilateral talks, the British Council and Tsche are preparing a detailed action plan to not only facilitate student mobility but also build capacity and exchange programs for faculty members.
