Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday said the caste-wise census must be done at least once throughout the country.
Responding to media requests in front of his meeting with PM Narendra Modi, Nitish further said that demand for wise population enumulation during the census-2021 is an important problem and “we have demanded it for a long time.” Nitish will lead the delegation of 11 members from 10 political parties from Bihar and meet PM in Delhi on Monday (August 23) to suppress wise census requests throughout the country.
The delegation will meet PM at 11 am.
Asked whether the request for the caste census would be resolved during his meeting with PM on Monday, Kumar said, “Let’s see.” “If our request (caste-wise census) conceded, nothing can be better than that.
Not only that only the Bihar people ask for caste-based census, people throughout the country are thinking on the same line.
Therefore, The caste-wise census must be done at least once throughout the country …
the leaders of all political parties from Bihar will together meet PM and submit this request, “said Minister of Bihar.
Bihar CM and several other delegation members reached Delhi on Sunday night.
The opposition leader at the Tejashwi Prasad Yadav Bihar Assembly, which will represent RJD in the delegation, already in Delhi for the past two days.
The long-delayed demand for conducting the caste-wise census was revived in July this year after the Government government told Lok Sabha that it would not count a wise population, except those from SCS and STS.
Replying to written requests at Lok Sabha on July 20 this year, the State Union Minister for House of Nityanan and Rai (which also came from Bihar) said that the Indian government has decided as a policy problem not to mention the caste-wise population other than SCS and STS in the census.
Previously, the state government of Maharashtra and Odisha also asked the center to collect detailed caste in the coming census.
Reacting to the middle reply at Lok Sabha, Nitish Kumar on July 24 asked the center to reconsider his decision not to mention the castel population that will come in the ten-year census.
Nitish also said the Council of Bihar unanimously passed the resolution on February 18, 2019 and again on February 27, 2020 demanded a wise population calculation.
He said the two resolutions were sent to the Union of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the United States were asked to hold a wise population enumeration during the census-2021.
