New Delhi: Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) has booked the Director of the Indian Gas Authority Limited (GAIL) and conducted a search at his residence in connection with bribery cases.
At least Rs 1.3 Crore recovered along with burdensome documents during search until Saturday night night, officials said.
Agency also arrested five people, including the director of a private company during the raids carried out after registration of FIR in this case, said the source, adding that the Director (Marketing) of Gadat, can be captured at any time.
On January 14, the agency filed an extinguisher of freedom against Rangathan for allegedly demanding bribery through intermediaries to provide discounts on petrochemical products marketed by Gail.
“The CBI registered a case against Gail and other directors (marketing) including private people, private companies and other people who were not known about allegations / information that were accused of being involved in corrupt and illegal activities in conspiracy with intermediaries,” said CBI spokesman RC Joshi.
According to CBI’s FIR, an intermediary, which acts on representative instructions from private companies, has asked Gail officials accused of allowing discounts to buyers of petro chemical products in exchange for illegal satisfaction.
After receiving complaints, the preliminary investigation was carried out and fired under the prevention section of the Registered Corruption Act.
The CBI then put the trap and captured the intermediary and the Director of a private company based in Delhi when the alleged bribery of Rs 10 Lakh was accepted (by the intermediary) on behalf of Handanyan.
Furthermore, the search was conducted in a place of accused of Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Panchkula and Karnal, which caused the recovery of Rs 84 Lakh, including Rs 75 Lakh from a private person in Gurgaon.
