Chandigarh: The Government Government has approved 40 more electric buses for the city.
The decision was taken in a recent meeting.
With this, the city will have 80 electric buses.
The first lot of 40 will reach the city at the end of December.

Recently, the Governor of Punjab-UT administrator Banwari Lal Purohit has asked the UT government To ensure the arrival of 40 electric buses at the end of December.
The instructions were issued after the UT Administrator Advisory Board Sub-Committee about the transportation issue submitted their actions taken.
The report said, “In connection with the electric bus, the agreement has been carried out with Ashok Leyland for the first lot of Lot procurement of 40 electric buses on the gross cost contract model (GCC) under the Fame-2 scheme.” The report said, “Electric bus trials have been completed in the condition of the city.

The first electric bus has reached the UT road on August 11.
After completion of trials for a month, the Department of Transportation has asked the manufacturer to make several technical changes.
Three companies have bid.
However, the lowest bidder, Ashok Leyland, was awarded a contract to run a bus friendly bus for 10 years in the KM scheme.
In accordance with the agreement, all maintenance expenditures, bus filling stations, suspension, HVAC systems and large and small repairs from the bus during the contract period will be the responsibility of a successful bidder.
The department will pay Rs 60 per km to the company.
Collection of rates will be carried out by authority.
After charged, the bus will cover a distance of almost 200-300 km and it takes two to three hours to fully charge.
In September last year, the center had sanctioned 80 electric buses for UT under Phase II of the adoption and manufacturing of hybrid and electrical vehicles in India (Indian Fame) scheme.
The procurement of the bus will provide a big boost for the UT plan to replace all of its ordinary fleets from the procurement of Chandigarh (CTU) transportation.
The transportation department has planned to replace all 358 diesel buses in Tricity with electricity in 2027-2028.
