The center emphasizes training in services for sensitive officials about disabilities

New Delhi: Increasing outreach to empower government functionaries to build inclusive communities and public and social infrastructure that can be accessed in the health and education sector for people with disabilities, the Ministry of Justice and Empowerment on Tuesday launched a training module that focuses on training in the service and sensitization of the main functionaries The central and state government and local agencies.
Through 700 institutes related to the Indian Rehabilitation Board, it is proposed to train around 10,000 main functionaries, from the grassroots to the most senior in government, every year through short-term training programs.
The Department of Persons with Disability (Depm) will now apply this scheme throughout the country.
The training module has been developed by the Indian Rehabilitation Board (RCI) which comes under PurView DepwD.
The target group includes allied health and professionals, educational functionaries, grassroots level functionalers such as Ashas and Angganwadi workers, senior and secondary officials including introductory modules in English and Hindi with image design and graphics.
Releasing a module in a program in the capital, Minister of Justice and Social Empowerment, Dr.
Virendra Kumar informs that the training module developed by RCI for six target groups will play a role in polishing the government functionaries at different levels and other stakeholders to deal with persons with disabilities effectively.
DEPWD officials that 12000 government officials have been sensitive to the present aspects of disability.
But this targeted module now provides standard outreach incidence and focused on different groups.
For example in the module for grassroots level functionaries, chapters describe the role they can play for early detection of disability, guidance for assessment, therapy and maintenance.
For grassroots workers, sensitization involves giving them insight into the challenges facing parents and how important to understand it.
It is also detailed about how families can be guided through the process of registering and accessing defective certificates and varied schemes.
Modules on health and education talks about accessibility for not only infrastructure but also information for someone to access schemes and facilities.
The health module also dwells on the mental health of PWD and subjects that are often ignored but are important of health and reproductive rights.
This module also brings focusing on women with disabilities and challenges they face because of higher vulnerabilities for harassment and exploitation.
The module for functional mid and senior levels including the IAS officers issued a broader canvas of the legal and policy framework and the linkages between laws that secure the rights of PWD and them for women, children and health.
