New Delhi: The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned 16 projects in the northern region under the scheme of Darshan Swadesh, said Minister of Tourism and Culture G Kishen Reddy on Monday.
During its first address from the conference of the two-day ministers of the Northern Tourism and Culture Countries in Guwahati, Assam, Reddy said the scheme focused on the integrated development of a theme-based tourist circuit.
Among the projects approved by the Ministry are Manas Wildlife Circuits consisting of Pobitora, Nameri, Kaziranga, Di Diping, Dibru, Saikhowa, and Tezpur Heritage Circuits, with a focus on Tezpur, Majaiuli and Destinations of Sibasagar in Assam.
The Minister also said that under the scheme of Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Augmentation Spirituality (Prasad), the Ministry had sanctioned several projects in the region, while the Ministry of Don was allocated Rs 68,020 Crore to NE countries at 2021-22.
MOS culture, Arjun Ram Meghwal also said the development of tourism was the core area and that NE had the potential for development.
By asserting that infrastructure development in the northeast will increase tourism development, Meghwal said that development in this sector will assist other sector sectors to develop and will help the nation to grow.
Head of Minister of Assam Himanta Buswa Sarma said northeast requires a holistic approach to the development of the tourism sector in the region and the entire region of NE must be promoted as a focus on connectivity and infrastructure.
On Monday, the Ministry of Tourism and Indian train tourism and tourism Corporation (IRCTC) also signed the MoU for cooperation in promoting domestic tourism and the development of new tourism products.
