New Delhi: Looking to make free plastic free India next year and deal with the threat of large plastic waste throughout the country, the center on Thursday told the ban on the use of a single plastic use from July 1 next year and increased polythene bag thickness of 50 microns up to 120 microns.
However, the thickness clause will be implemented by staggering in two phases, starting September 30.
At present, a polythene bag of less than 50 microns is prohibited in this country.
But based on new rules, polythene pockets of less than 75 microns will be banned from September 30 and bags of less than 120 microns will be banned from December 31 next year.
Notifications, issued by the Ministry of Environment said that manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sales and use of single use plastic, including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, commodities will be prohibited influence from July 1, 2022.
Single-use plastic items including earbuds with plastic sticks, Plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polystyrene [Thermo-col] for decoration; Plates, glasses, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrappers or packaging films around the sweet box, invitation cards, and cigarette packages, plastic banners or PVC less than 100 microns and stirrers.
The staggering plan in the thickness clause has been approved so that it does not affect small businesses and traders.

The final decision was notified on Thursday after considering the views of stakeholders on the draft.
Notifications also for the first time define ‘single plastic use and identify such items that will be banned in staggering ways.
It is said “single plastic commodity” means plastic items intended to be used once for the same purpose before discarded or recycled.
Increased tinching bag thickness, made of virgin plastic or recycling, will substantially improve the collection and recycling used carrier bags.
The move assumes such significance, 40% of total plastic waste remains not shaken in the country every day.
Not collected plastic waste causes choking drainage and river systems, land and water contamination, scattered marine ecosystems, consumption by wild animals, and open air combustion that leads to adverse effects on human health and the environment.
Under the notification, it will be the responsibility of urban local agencies and ‘Gram Panchayats’ to manage and coordinate the waste management system and to perform related functions such as ensuring separation, collection, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of plastic waste.
The provisions of the thickness will not apply to carrying a bag consisting of compost plastic.
Manufacturers or sellers or brand owners Carry Plastic Compost can obtain certificates from the center pollution control board before marketing / sales or use these items including plastic packaging materials.
