New Delhi: With several opposition parties including Congress missed meeting all parties in Covid-19 management, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for the center and countries to work together as a team and rise above politics to combat pandemics.
Speaking at a meeting called by the central government, Modi said India was in a better position than many other countries in terms of the population ratio affected by the disease but underlined the need to remain vigilant because he cited the revival of several countries such as the United Kingdom, said the source.
He said vaccines from more companies tended to be available in some time and talked about the encouragement provided by the government for vaccination.
The presentation of Covid-19 management was given by Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan at the meeting, which lasted for almost three hours.
It was followed by questions and suggestions from leaders from various parties.
Shiv Sena and TMC demanded more vaccines for Maharashtra and West Bengal.
BJD, TMC and several others also demand that the government have to accelerate the process of getting international recognition for the original vaccine, Covaxin.
The Trs leader Names Nageswara Rao urged the government to push drive vaccination and record concerns that the second wave also affected the rural population.
He despite adding that Modi has injected extra seriousness in the campaign to fight a pandemic by signaling more than 20 meetings in this matter.
A number of opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress Party, NCP and Samajwadi, attended all party meetings, chaired by the Prime Minister to discuss the government’s handling of the Covid-19 situation while the opposition party congress was sliding.
Foreign Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was among those present at the meeting for all party leaders.
Other States ministers, including Piyush Goyal and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Sharad Pawar NCP, Yadav Ramawal Samajwadi and Pinaki Misra BJD is one of the opposition leaders attending the meeting.
BSP leaders and TRS also attended the meeting.
While many regional non-NDA parties attended the meeting, former BJP allies, Akali Dal, also missed it.
The left party also did not attend the meeting.
The opposition leader at Rajya Sabya Malikarjun Kharge said the Congress did not boycott the meeting but would not attend because his party would like the government to present the facts on the second floor of the parliamentary house.
On Monday, Modi said he had asked all the leaders of the floor to spend time on Tuesday night when he wanted to provide detailed information about the pandemic.
“We want discussions at home and outside the house with all the leaders of the floor.
I constantly meet the main ministers and all types of discussions are happening in different forums.
So I also want to meet with the leaders of the floor as a house.
