Bhubaneswar: Waspada on the increase in the death of a road accident in Odisha, the center has urged the Head of the Minister of Naveen Patnaik to consider adopting a road safety model from Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in reducing the accident fatality of 54% in the past five years.
“We have a successful model adopted by the Government of Tamil Nadu in reducing road and death accidents.
Tamil Nadu focuses on the principles of 4ES (education, engineering, enforcement and emergency care) and achieved in reducing accidents by 38% and death of 54% in The last five years.

It should be noted that deaths related to accidents on the road have increased by almost 21% from 2014 (3,931 deaths) to 2019 (4,738 deaths) in the state.
This even though the Supreme Court Committee concerning Street Safety directs the state government to lower up to 50% by 2020.
The death rate (death per hundred accidents) is around 48.2% in Odisha in 2019, much higher than the national average of 36 , 6%.
The number of accident deaths increased to 1877 between January and April this year from 1,471 during the appropriate months of 2020, up to a 27.60% increase.
According to the Department of Transportation, the accidental mortality rate increased abnormally by 25% in the first half of this year compared to the first six months of 2020, despite the covid-induced lock.
Singh proposed to Naveen to take a few steps, including the creation of consciousness through the behavior of road safety advocacy activities throughout the year, the creation of adeg post (road safety) in the police, strengthening the mechanism of gold hours and black spots or tends to accidents based on priority.
