Mumbai: The government has kicked out training to create a national inventory of critical drugs for Covid-19 to conduct challenges around affordability and accessibility when preparing for the third possible third wave.
To begin, stock buffers from 15-odd drugs, including anti-viral remedies, the main antibiotic tilizumab, and amphotericin black mushroom drugs will be maintained, after inventory is obtained through a tender process, the source said to TOI.
This can prevent a large-scale shortage of critical medicines such as remdesivir, tovilizumab, the main antibiotics and ICU drugs, witnessed during the brutal second wave in April-June this year.
Stock-out causes black marketing and major mark-ups in certain prices of drugs such as remedies and todilizumab throughout the country, which greatly affects ordinary people.
For example, in the case of remdesivir, the floating tender recently and supplies have been sent by the company.
Initially, the plan was to create a stock of 50 lakh vials of remedesivir, the source added.
National stockpiles are expected to be funded from the 23.123-crore RS package approved by the center in July to improve health infrastructure to fight Covid-19.
This center has also compiled oxygen supply strategies, and focuses on ICU preparedness.
About 2.4 lakh medical beds and 20,000 ICU will be made with a special focus on pediatric care.
Under the new package, the center will provide Rs 15,000 Crore, and the state will contribute RS 8,123 Crore.
The plan will be implemented together by them in 736 districts to improve medical infrastructure.
It can be understood that certain countries, including Gujarat, have also started similar exercises to sustain the inventory of drugs related to Covid Essential in concerns of the third wave.
Stockpile creation will help companies plan and manage inventory to strengthen the supply chain and resolve disruption in making raw materials (active pharmaceutical materials), and formulations (drugs).
Even when stocks are obtained, the company has been asked to maintain sufficient specific drug stocks where making time making 15-20 days.
In December last year after the Covid case was reduced, the company had reduced the production of major drugs because there were fewer requirements.
“Strategic stock of critical Covid drugs, oxygen, and other Covid requirements is very important based on our Covid 2.0 learning.
The state and state government work together.
We must be ready so we are not caught off this time.
The company is working on the production cycle and management of their inventory So there is a change of critical drugs that are faster in an emergency.
Manufacturing and supply chain agility have been important and will continue to be important in an unexpected environment because Covid, “an industrial expert previously told TII.
