MADURAI: The central team of three members visits the areas affected by rain in Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Team – consisting of RB Kaul, a consultant at the Ministry of Finance, P Thangamani, Director of the Department of Water Resources, and Bhavya Pandey, Assistant Director, Ministry of Power – Visiting Milapethan Anaicut in North Thamaraikulam, where there is a violation of the Bund River.
Violations on the channel and road damage in KmaraBooil were also examined.
The team also examined the people of Zhi, Apta Market, there was diakkal and thirupatiamaram.
In Vaikkaloor, three places including a place where the river changed direction was examined by the team.
Speaking to reporters in Padmanabapuram, Kaul said that they had visited places selectively but had received a complete report of damage that was considered so far in the form of a memorandum.
Kaul said that two central teams visiting the state would submit a consolidated report on damage to the trade union government.
The level of plant damage is estimated at 75 hectares of rice and 45 hectares of banana plants so far.
When water has not receded in several places, all plant damage has not been assessed, officials said.
Kankumumari District collector M Aravind said they had submitted a proposal for RS 100 Crore for temporary infrastructure recovery including those under PWD and the highway.
Complete restoration may require around RS 250 Crore, he said.
