Chennai: After canceling the tender and putting some projects in the review, Greater Chennai Corporation has now shuffled the role and places the new major engineers responsible for the department where corruption is rampant.
Among the reshuffles ordered by the corporate commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Tuesday, road routes, interior roads, special projects, and smart city projects were handed over to Chief Engineer S Rajendiran.
These departments were previously handled by L Nandakumar, Chief Engineer, General.
The department has been on radar for corrupt tender practices and malpractices in the use of funds.
A senior official in the Civic body told TII that Rejig was carried out to ensure that there was a distribution of power and the same portfolio among all officials.
“Some officials are good at certain types of work.
However, we want to shake and ensure everyone gets the opportunity to handle a different department.

L Nandakumar, Chief Engineer (General), will be responsible for disposal of storm water and disaster management, general engineering coordination, Singara Chennai 2.0, all government announcements and the Trust Restoration Restoration Chennai (CRRT).
S Kalimuthu, park engineer head and play field, funeral base, toilet and quality control, will also be responsible for the wing building now.
A corporate official told TII that while reshuffle could be a routine process, sending a hard message in Greater Chennai Corporation.
“Since 2014, many officials who are supervisory engineers have handled only certain departments even after they are promoted.
This reshuffle will ensure that corrupt practices stop and will also help improve the quality of the project.”
