Gurgaon: More than 12,000 hectares of agricultural land with plants standing in seven villages from Chandu Buddera to Makrola were flooded as three clown water channels of storm city storms, including drain Badshapur, reduced rain water to the farm.
The villagers accused the destroyed plants and water will remain in the fields until October, mainly due to the blockage and lack of cleaning Najafgarh drain on the side of Delhi.
Rainwater from the city through three main channels – badshapur (natural), foot-1 and legs-2 (man-made) – should go through Najafgarh flowing into Yamuna.
Although farmers have demanded the construction of Bund near the Najafgarh channel to prevent flooding for some time now, the upheaval between Delhi and the Government Haryana have become a major obstacle to any problems.
The villagers say the state government must obtain their land or find some solutions to channel water, because they can only grow one plant a year now.
According to local farmers, more than 12,000 hectares in Dharampur, Momdheri, Daultabad, Kherki Majra, Dhankot, Chandu Budder Village and Makrola continue to flood most of the year, preventing them farming on it.
“Bund will help us carry out agriculture in the land.
Delhi builds the old Bund, which benefits farmers in the capital.
However, the government Haryana has not taken such a step.
We have approached officials and government ministers, but no one knows it,” said the land owner Dhankot , Prahalad Kataria, which has around 40 hectares of farmland in Chandu Budhera, said rainwater from the city area flooded their fields and destroyed plants in the monsoon.
“Many houses built in the fields are also flooded,” Kataria said, adding that they had never received compensation and all their presentations and letters to the government failed to produce any results.
Ramesh Vashishta, another farmer, said they face the same problem every year.
“Water remains in the field until October and because of this, farmers cannot produce more than one plant in a year,” he added.
Three main sewers are under the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
A senior GMDA official said the main minister was aware of this problem.
“We have cleared the Najafgarh channel on our side, but it has not been cleaned from Delhi’s side,” the official said, adding that agricultural land in these villages was in the lowland area and rainwater would naturally flow to these areas , In 2016, the government had submitted a Brief to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate of States, committed to telling Lake Najafgarh and the surrounding swamps – located on the border of Haryana-Delhi, giving the two countries.
