Kolhapur / Pune: The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) on Wednesday registered the night temperature at Mahabaleshwar Hill Station at 9.6 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest in Maharashtra.
Expanded coverage forecasts issued by the IMD said the country would experience cooler days and nights in the coming days.
On Wednesday, the country recorded a drop of afternoon and night temperatures in four regions – Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada and Vidarbha.
While the temperature of Mahabaleshwar officially dropped 3.8 degrees below normal, the weather station reported the temperature at Lake Venna which was famous at the hill station at 2.8 degrees Celsius.
The day before, the same weather station has set a minimum temperature on the lake at 4 degrees Celsius.
Over the past few days, the temperature has consistently dropped Mahabaleshwar.
Locals claim that for a brief duration at 3:30 a.m., the temperature on Lake Venna has touched “zero” on the temperature recorder.
Many residents said they were watching the dew froze for some time in Mahabaleshwar, while Venna was still wrapped in solid fog until 9:30 a.m.
on Wednesday.
Kamlesh Kadam, who runs a restaurant in Mahabaleshwar, said, “We experienced a drizzle like snow for some time in the morning.
It will be seen for visitors but, unfortunately, the tourist point is closed because of Covid.” In Kolhapur, a group of residents has begun to distribute clothes Warm and blankets among the homeless people at the train station, bus stands and other places.
Kiran Mahadeshwar, Head of the Dash Group, said, “The poor do not have sufficient blankets and clothes to keep themselves warm.
They are not ready and do not know that weather switches.”
