Coimbatore: G S Ssyat District collector has issued an order to remove all the stockpiling and illegal banners on the road and path before October 17.
Tuesday, TOI has brought a report on how the illegal hoarding pose a threat to the lives of the passengers.
While issuing orders on Friday night to remove it from the state highway, national highway, corporate roads and paths, collectors had warned strict acts against people who failed to obey their direction in a period of time specified.
“In that case, local body and revenue officials will be removed to eliminate the stockpiling and costs involved in the same case they will be collected from those who scan them,” he said.
The collector said the hoarding could be installed only with the previous agreement and both of the High Court and the State Government had issued orders in this case in the past.
Turning on the announcement, activists, and commuter collectors say that many accidents can be prevented by eliminating stockpiling and illegal banners on the roadside.
They also urged the district administration to rest with people who failed to remove hoarding on October 17.
They said illegal hoarding was largely found along the road to the city in rural areas.
“They are mainly placed by real estate players and educational institutions.” M Devendran, Secretary, Coimbatore District Roads Protection Association, praised the decision of the district collector to free the illegal stockpiling road.
“This will help prevent road accidents.
Lack of momentary concentration can cause accidents.
Given that hoarding and banners can distract the driver, it is important to regulate it and remove it from the roadside.” Commuter said periodic drives against illegal hoarding would not provide a lot of change.
They say officials must keep them organized to end the threat once and for all.
