New Delhi: Notifications issued for the agency engaged in building the WHO building in Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Wednesday after being found during a surprise inspection by the Minister of Environment Delhi Gopal Rai which was violated at the location.
“Most of the norms are being followed at the construction site, but the sand is stored in the open and workers are not masked,” Rai said at a press conference.
He said that notification has been issued for the construction agency that asks to comply with all the guidelines within two days, failed to be fined.
“Now it’s not the time to survey, this is the time to take action.
Our team goes to all Delhi districts and 15 to 20 teams check different sites every day,” he added.
Under Delhi’s anti-dust campaign, so far 522 construction sites have been examined and a fine of RS 53.5 Lakh has been put in 165 of them for violations of dust mitigation norms.
Rai appealed Delhies to complain about pollution in the city in the Green Delhi application so that the action can soon be taken.
“I asked everyone in Delhi to download the Green Delhi application on their cellphone.
Is there a dust pollution on the road, pollution in the construction site, vehicle pollution or fire, you take photos from your cellphone and send it to us through the Green Delhi application so we can take action immediately, “he said.
To curb vehicle pollution in the national capital, the government will launch a campaign ‘bright red light, Gaadi from October 18.
“To make a successful campaign, a meeting will be held tomorrow with senior environmental and income officials, Delhi police and civil defense,” Rai said.
The ‘Red Light On, Gaadi’ campaign encourages motorists to turn off their vehicle’s ignition while waiting for the traffic signal.
