Coimbatore: City Corporation has canceled the work order given to four private companies to maintain 52,715 led street lights, which came to 20Watt to 200Watt, in 60 people, quoting their poor work.
The tender worth 4.60 crore was given to them earlier this year.
The East Zone has the number of highest LED street lights 16,923, followed by the Central Zone (12,627), the North Zone (9,905), West Zone (8,319) and the South Zone (4,932).
The corporate source said the resolution to cancel the work order was approved at the Board meeting on August 31.
Work orders are issued for KCP Engineering Private Limited, RVG Metal Industries, R & N Electricals and Sabari Electricals after the success of the tender offer.
The company has agreed to maintain at least 98% of road lights in working conditions at any time.
However, in the first three months it was noted that only 90% of the lights worked.
There are several other deviations as well, said sources with the corporate engineering department.
“In accordance with the agreement, they should install the control room and introduce the helpline number, allowing the public to raise complaints about non-functional street lights.
But they fail to do it.” Shows that the companies are bound to deal with complaints within 48 hours after receiving them , the source said they did not fail in the area too, because they did not use enough labor.
“Then the corporate commissioner on June 6 was looking for an explanation from four companies for their mistakes.
Because their response was unsatisfactory, work orders were canceled,” said the source.
City Corporation will now float fresh tenders.
