A controversy has erupted after Governor Goa Polar Sredharan said his office was informed by the police in Kerala that “inappropriate” for him to take part in the meeting held at the Orthodox Syria Malankara Church headquarters in Devalokam on Friday.
Pillai, former BJP State President, revealed this during his speech while inaugurating a meeting called ‘Smrithy Sukrutham’ to pay tribute to Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II.
Continuing the topic, Pillai said that officers must maintain a broad view.
He also said that his office had received an official letter, and was written that it was inappropriate to take part in the meeting in Devalokam.
“Usually, it is the governor’s office that replies to these letters.
But in this matter, I dictate the reply letter sent,” he said, adding that the answer he gave was that he would take part in a meeting at the Church headquarters.
Then talking to Toi, Pillai said that he did not want to make controversy from it, and the governor’s office had no complaints about the incident.
When contacted, Kottayam District Police Chief D Shilpa said that he only told the governor’s office that the area where the meeting was scheduled to fall in the micro detention zone.
“When the area was removed from the detention zone and restrictions were appointed on Thursday night by district collectors, I had notified that also to the governor’s office,” Shilpa said.
“As a SP of the district, it is my duty to keep the VVIP office inform, and I have done my duty.
We also got a reply from his office that they would follow the Covid protocol,” he said.
