Anand (Gujarat): Minister of Home and Collaboration Union Amit Shah on Sunday said the cooperative sector has the potential to turn India into an economy of USD 5 trillion and will also be proven to be important in making an independent agricultural sector.
He also stressed the need to implement a cooperative model, which was behind the success of Amul giant milk, to raise agriculture and sector sectors.
“As we can see today, Lal Dream Bahadur Shastri about the White Revolution is being realized.
But time has come to see this (milk processing).
We need to implement this cooperative model to lift sectors such as agriculture and livestock,” Shah said.
“The cooperative model will prove important in making Agriculture ‘Atmanirbhar’ (Mandiri),” he said.
Shah spoke at an event here which was held to mark the settlement of the 75-year Amul, which began in 1946 as a cooperative movement in Anand with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel guidance and Tribhuvandas Patel cooperative leader, founder of Kheda Kheda Cooperative District, the Milk Manufacturer, popularly known as Amul Dairy.
At present, Amul Dairy, along with 17 other district cooperative unions is part of the body of the Gujarat cooperative dairy umbrella, which sells dairy products with the brand name ‘Amul’.
There are around 36 families of farmers lakh in Gujarat who are associated with Amul.
“Don’t limit yourself to 36 lakh.
Today, many farmers have turned to organic farming, but they don’t have any platforms to sell organic agricultural products in India and the world.
Can cooperative organizations like Amul help them do it? Time has come To think about these lines.
It will also increase farmers’ income, “Shah said.
“Timely research is not carried out in seeds.
Can the cooperative sector take it? This sector must also take the task of developing new vegetable varieties.
This will ensure that the benefits of reaching farmers, not private companies will also contribute to multiplying farmers’ income,” he added.
Express belief that the cooperative movement will play an important role in making India economics USD 5 trillion, Shah said, “Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly believes that the cooperative sector will be very important in making India ‘Atmanirbhar’.” Shah also appreciates the role of Amul in empowering women.
He told the attendance that Amul turnover had reached Rs 53,000 Crore at 2020-21.
“Amul began his journey with a collection of 200 liters of milk in 1946.
Today, 3 crore liters of milk is processed every day with the help of around 18,000 cooperative communities throughout Gujarat.
Eighteen District Level Milk Factories and 87 Milk Processing Factories are associated with Amul,” added Shah.
He also said that the Ministry of Cooperation, created in July this year with the motto “Sahkar SE Samriddhi”, is in the process of preparing a ministry charter.
Given the cooperative movement begins by Sardar Patel and Tribhuvandas Patel, which leads to Amul’s creation, Shah, without giving a certain context, saying, “The purpose of a movement is to find a solution for a problem, not to worsen it.” On that occasion, Shah launched The “Dairy Sahakar” scheme, with RS 5,000 crore expenditure, where the milk sector will get a loan through the National Cooperative Development Corporation.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Amul, Shah released a post stamp, launched the Amul brand of organic fertilizer and gave progressive farmers.
The Minister also inaugurated the ethnoveteriner supplement and cheese storage factory in Gujarat.
Following his speech, Shah visited Amul Dairy Premises and then held a meeting with senior GCMMF officials, the state government and leaders of cooperative sector leaders there.
