Coimbatore: At least 2,256 people benefit from the first medical camp conducted by City Corporation under the ‘Kalignarin Varumun Kappom’ scheme in the corporate middle school in Chinnavedampatti here on Tuesday.
Inaugurated by the corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara, the camp shows 21 kiosks, and ENT, pediatric, teeth, psychiatry, siddha, cardiology, gynecology, orthopedics and dermatology specialties.
A corporate official said 1,359 people – 752 men and 607 women – had undergone various tests and playback in camps.
Many of them were diagnosed with the initial symptoms of tuberculosis and they were referred to the hospital to get x-rays and other tests.
“Five people were found to have an ortho problem and they were also referred to the hospital.
Four had eye problems and they were referred to cataract procedures.” The official said the beneficiaries had access to free blood tests, electrocardiography, echocardiography, and ultrasonography in the camp.
“People, who are diagnosed with health problems, provided initial care and free drugs.” A doctor said this scheme was launched to identify medical problems among people in the early stages and gave them the guidance and care needed.
“People often come to the hospital only when their health problems worsen.
At that time, they might have developed many complications.” The camp sees participation from Dr.
P Aruna, Deputy Director of Health Services, and Dr.
Sathish Kumar, City Health Officers.
The city is likely to see three similar camps until February 2022, while rural areas will host 36 camps, which will be held from 9am to 4pm in a certain place.
