Thiruvananthapuram: In a movement aimed at reducing the practice of garbage disposal near the airport, City Corporation has initiated a collection of door pitch to door in and around 350 households in the Vallakadavu area.

City Corporation often finds itself at the recipient’s end of incidents involving birds at Trivandrum Airport since the trash mound near the landing area and spots close to the airport attracting large quantities of birds.
Police Valiyathura recently continued a letter to City Corporation who was looking for action to expel meat vendors responsible for garbage disposal in the area.
“As a first step we can bring all the colonies under the door gathering system to the door.
About 98 families who live in Muttathara will soon shift to two hectares of land as part of rehabilitation.
After this is finished, meat vendors among the beneficiaries can do Business in the authorized market in Vallakadavu.
This is expected to eliminate with the practice of garbage disposal in public places, “said Shajida Nazar, members of the environment, Vallakadavu.
City Wing City Corporation plans to hold a meeting with meat vendors in this area to promote them to do business in the official market with adequate waste disposal facilities and facilities.
City Corporation previously considered prosecutional steps on vendors and meat tubers operating without permission around the airport after the Field Environment Management Committee (AEMC) and district collectors called on strict action to examine bird threats.
Together with airport authorities, officials and police Corporation City were held in 2020 to identify various places where birds were found in large quantities.

In the AEMC meeting held on February 3, 2020, the committee discussed the cost factor that arises during each incident involving birds.
The committee held a discussion on the line that because the Civic body was responsible for preventing the formation of dump yards and illegal meat kiosks in the airport buffer zone, the corporation could be considered responsible for losses incurred during each bird.
However, there is no final decision made.
In a meeting held in October 2019 the Director of the Airport, which was also an AEMC organizer, told the meeting that the bird strike that took place at the Trivandrum airport was on the higher side and in 2018 around 55 bird strikes were reported.
He showed that kiosks of meat / fish / open chicken must be locked up to avoid bird threats.
The accumulation of waste is also reported in the area near Brahmos Aerospace, Kochuveli, Titanium and SN Nagar, Paruthikuzhy and Muttathara.
