Ranchi: Jharkhand residents can solve crackers for only two hours at night Diwali, the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) said on Saturday, the day after the State announced to calm a number of covid-19 sidewalks to allow people to shop and celebrate the future celebrations.
The formal order issued by the Board said during Diwali and Guruparab, fireworks will be permitted only between 8pm and 10:00.
For Chhath, the revelers can solve crackers from 6am to 8 in the morning, while at Christmas and New Year, people can do it only between 11.55 nights and 12:30, read the order, issued by the Secretary of the Board Member, Y K Das.
A council official said, “We have adopted a similar model enforced last year.” He said that the rules would apply to all districts where the pollution level was found to be within satisfying limits.
“Last year, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) decided that crackers could only explode in places where the level of air pollution and sound was found to be within the specified limit.
In Jharkhand, the level of pollution in almost all places is within reach so far.
Therefore , crackers are permitted, but only for windows two hours, “he added.
The pollution council has also forbidden the sale of crackers who have a vote limit of more than 125 decibels.
“Sales and breakup crackers with noise levels only up to 125dB will be permitted.
It is up to the district government concerned to ensure that crackers outside the boundaries are not sold,” another official said.
Crackers’ sales have begun in the capital earlier this week.
The district government has allocated a handful of places, namely the Morhabadi Stadium, Harmu, Baripal and Jaipal Singh, for retail sales of crackers.
