Muzaffarnagar: The married couple sank after their horse-drawn vehicle lost a balance when crossing the river in a village in the Shamli District Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, encouraging villagers to protest the administration due to lack of bridges in the area.
Nitu Kashyap, his wife Rubi and their niece Gautam crossed the Krishna River in Matnawali Village with forage and their trains fell, police said.
Gautam was saved with the help of villagers, Kandhla Station House officers (Sho) Rozent Tyagi said, added that he was hospitalized for treatment.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Irate demanded compensation for family members of the victims.
Instead of protest against administration, they refused to surrender the body of the victims to the police.
Then, several police officers calmed them and the body sent for postmortem.
